Since Alana Smith stormed onto the X Games scene with a Women’s Park silver medal at Barcelona 2013, they made it clear that they’re a force to be reckoned with. Alana is among a select group of skateboarders who push limits regardless of the terrain, or gender. Alana’s transition skills are impressive and sometimes overshadow their considerable street prowess.

Alana can throw McTwists on the vert ramp and has even hit the MegaRamp. “It’s like a crazy feeling knowing I’m (one of only a few girls) doing mega,” says Smith. “It would be fun if there were more girls skating with me. It’d be awesome.” Alana’s style has developed into an aggressive, yet stylish, skater that can handle whatever obstacle is thrown at them. Alana was also the first, and currently only, woman to do a backflip on a skateboard.

Alana has said many times, “I don’t want to be known as a good female skateboarder. I just want to be known as a good skater, someone that made a difference. Gender shouldn’t matter.” With women’s skateboarding to debut at the 2021 Summer Olympics Tokyo, and Alana being a proud member of USA Skateboarding and Team USA, they are making a strong push to show the world what they can do and bring home a medal for the USA.
